The CIDD (Catheter Infection Detection Device) team is developing a real-time monitoring system for patient urinary systems. Approximately 20% of hospital patients use a catheter, and catheters cause approximately 75% of urinary tract infections (UTI's). Considering the number of hospitalizations in the US alone, reducing the UTI rate would be a major win for patients (who would need less recovery time) and hospitals (who pay for fines and additional treatment caused by UTI's). To solve this issue, this team is developing a device that alerts nurses as soon as a potential infection is detected. Check back later to see our progress! Team
